Explanation Writing

This week we are going to be writing an explanation.

Explanations tell us

  1. What something is (example- a tool)
  2. How things work (instructions)
  3. Why things happen (rain cycle)
Today you are going to explain the rain cycle. You must explain each part of the rain cycle.

This video will help you.

Inquiry Project - Sharing our learning preparation!

We are in the process of putting all of our learning into a presentation to share with our parents/caregivers. We have learnt so much about Seasonal Planting and what Seeds and Plants need to grow!

Here is a sneak peek of us hard at work! We hope to see you all on Friday of week 5 to see all of our hard work!

Seasonal Planting - Winter time problem

In winter time; seeds and plants can find it way too cold to grow, and sometimes the frosts can kill them!

So.... Room 14 decided that we needed to find a solution for this! We came up with the idea of a green house! We wondered how we would do this!?

We watched some youtube clips that showed us lots of different ways to do this, and Shannon (who has been giving us lots of cool information!) showed us a way to make a green house too!

Check out the mini greenhouses we have made! We look forward to watching the seeds grow and seeing if our creations work!

Making the mini green houses by planting seeds in egg cartons and then putting them in ziplock bags.

Check it out! It has condensation already!

Seasonal Planting

Room 14 is becoming experts on seasonal planting!

So far we have:

1. Brainstormed what we already know about seasons and planting.
2. Come up with what we needed to know, and where to find information about seasons and plants to help us understand this.
3. Conducted experiments to help us know the best environment for a seed and plants to grow.
4. Learned some more about the temperature and weather in each season.
5. We then came up with some problems seeds and plants might encounter in each season.

This is what we came up with for summer and what we thought we could do about it. See the next post about the winter problem, and how we thought we could solve it!

Tyrahn and Rayyed made this home made sprinkler out of a plastic bottle and then Shannon (Phoebe's mum) hooked it up to a hose for us and we tested it out! It worked!
